Spring 2026 Firmware Database Update – March Update
March 2026 (Spring Update)
Since the beginning of 2026 to date, users have downloaded 4,124 firmware files, totaling 120 GB. As we recognize the strong demand from the data recovery community for our firmware files in daily work, we continuously expand the database. New firmware is uploaded on a weekly basis, and Spring 2026 brings a larger update than usual.
In March, our database was expanded with:
- 112 new hard drive models
- 2979 new firmware files (39.79 GB total)
All entries in the database originate from real-world data recovery cases performed in our lab. For those less familiar with how firmware from our database is used, especially non-professionals attempting ROM-related procedures, we recommend reading the following article:

This blog explains common misconceptions, such as using firmware as a direct manufacturer replacement, expectations around *.bin files, and why firmware cannot be matched to a specific serial number. It also clarifies the actual purpose of our firmware database and how it differs from official manufacturer firmware.
Current database structure
Our Firmware Database now includes the following number of models by manufacturer:
Hitachi — 264
Samsung — 199
Seagate — 405
Toshiba — 145
Western Digital — 1763
Maxtor — 97
Total: 2873 models
Western Digital leads as the most represented manufacturer in our database, reflecting its dominant presence in the market and the frequency of these drives in recovery cases. Seagate follows as the primary competitor, well known for high-capacity drives. Third place is held by Hitachi, whose HDD division was acquired by Western Digital, which is also reflected in the structure and compatibility patterns seen across many models.
Continuous growth
Our Firmware Database continues to grow with every new recovery case. Through weekly updates, more firmware data is continuously made available to support the data recovery community.
Thank you for using the HddSurgery Firmware Database.
